Coffee Alternatives That Actually Work
Whether you are looking for a morning coffee substitute or looking to replace caffeine altogether - I’ve got a lineup of my favorite energy givers to share.
Choosing to give up coffee is often a decision that comes after some deep introspection - some do it for the challenge, others do it because the anxiety from our beloved beans has become too much. I go back and forth with my coffee consumption, but what makes it easy to taper off is that I’ve got a sexy arsenal of coffee alternatives that help me to stay focused and energized without missing a beat.
Caffeine Free Energy
Ting by Moon Juice is the star of the show when it comes to caffeine free energy. It’s a powder that is fortified with a powerful combo of B-Vitamins and Ginseng that also helps you to feel clear headed and upbeat. It’s mango flavored and seriously juicy. My fave time to drink a cup of this is right before a workout - it delivers all of the drive and spark - but no itchy skin or jitters.
A glass of warm cacao has become a sacred coffee alternative that I love at any time of day - but especially during mornings when I am looking for a warm and peaceful vibe. Keep in mind cacao is not inherently sweet - so it’s not quite like drinking hot chocolate. To spice it up and make it really energizing, I like to mix with a little cayenne and maple syrup.
And finally, adaptogens. My true love. In this case, my ride or dies are cordyceps and ashwagandha. I find that this is the best combo for achieving alertness and calm - and really try to make them a daily ritual. This supplement by Zhou Nutrition is one of my favorites because it combines 7 different adaptogens - and it’s very affordable.
Low Caffeine Options
The good part about low caffeine options is that you still get some of the energy your body has come to love, but without feeling incapable of breathing normally. And truth be told, matcha really is my one and only low caf option - for good reason though.
Benefits Of Matcha
Like many of us, my love affair with Matcha started with a Starbucks’ Matcha Latte a few years back. Roughly around the Junior Year of High School era- I had graduated from the frappucinos, but hadn’t quite advanced to iced coffees yet.
These days, sometimes the jittery iced-coffee induced caffeine-high gets to me in more of the “can’t sit still, but can’t focus on a single thing” way and less of the “let’s get shit done” way. This is when I know it’s time to take a BREAK from the beloved iced coffees. And, this is when I usually come back to matcha. Now, why matcha?
Well, to put it simply- Matcha is a miracle.
And, not so simply, the benefits are countless. Matcha containes L-Theanine, which calms the mind and relaxes the body, providing you with a sustainable caffeine rush that is longer lasting, more focused, and less jittery than coffee. The miracle tea is TEN TIMES more potent than a regular cup of green tea, and is rich in vitamin c, fiber, chlorophyll, zinc, magnesium, and antioxidants aplenty. Like a multivitamin, but so much tastier. And last, but certainly not least, Matcha will boost your metabolism and detox the body, all while lowering your cholesterol. It’s a win, win, win, win situation.
So keep on keeping on ordering your $5 lattes, but don’t stop there. Cook with Matcha. Rub it on your body. Bathe in it. Throw your Matcha powder in the air and let the bountiful healing properties rain down onto you.
